‘Free of’ Hair Care – Wella ELEMENTS Shampoo & Conditioner

I’ve been using a new paraben, sulphate, and artificial colourant free shampoo and conditioner which has left my hair and conscience  feeling amazing! The new Wella Professionals ELEMENTS has won numerous awards worldwide for this range of hair care and its pretty obvious why, it’s incredible! Specially designed for ingredient conscious clients, this hair care range is ‘free from’ all those damaging chemicals which strip the hair and scalp of its natural goodness.

As we are all caring so much about what we put into our bodies these days, the ‘eat clean’ ethos has started to resonate into skincare and hair care where consumers are starting to question all the chemicals inside beauty products. I have been trying to champion ethical and natural products for a while now so it’s great to finally find a shampoo and conditioner which not only works, it feels luxurious too. A lot of natural and sulphate free products which have the ‘no foam’ feeling is actually quite strange.

What are Sulfates?

For those of you who aren’t aware of sulfate, it is a synthetic ingredient that is found in most cleaning products which give them that lathery foam. It was introduced into cleaning products in the 1930s to make us believe that foam equals washing, which I guess has conditioned us today. The truth is, Sulfate is an aggressive chemical which is damaging and it strips the hair and skin of keratin causing dullness, frizz, split ends, scalp damage, and makes it more vulnerable to heat and the environment.

What are Parabens?

Parabens are the most widely used preservatives in cosmetics and personal care products such as soap, moisturizers, shaving cream and underarm deodorant. Companies use parabens to extend the shelf life of products that is required to have a shelf life, e.g. how long a particular product remains acceptable to use under normal conditions. They are controversial due to the suspicion of it’s ability to mimic Oestrogen which is linked to breast cancer due to it’s ability to stimulate breast cell division and secondly it’s ability to interact with other hormones that are believed to promote cell division.

Sulphate and Paraben Free

With the rise of clean beauty, scientists are discovering natural ways of giving products the clean feel at renewing their shelf life whilst restoring keratin. The discover Elements Renewing Shampoo, Lightweight Renewing Conditioner and Conditioning Leave Spray is inspired by the unique combination of nature and science. The Wella Professionals scientists developed the NuTREE complex enriched with natural tree extract to help protect hair against keratin degeneration and targets the scalp and hair inside and out to ensure that both act and stay like renewed. It has up to 10 times more keratin than your average shampoo and instantly repairs and prevents against keratin degeneration.

The Shampoo is my favourite. It smells so good and foams up but doesn’t leave your hair feeling squeaky clean after which is caused by the stripping sulfates. This shampoo does the exact opposite by adding moisture to the hair, preserving it, and nourishing it from root to tip. It also renews dry brittle hair, and protects against breakage.

As my hair is coloured, it’s always damaged and brittle so to find a shampoo that locks in moisture and adds radiance is amazing.

This Lightweight paraben free conditioner is for every day use. For those who have coloured and damaged hair would probably need to use  a weekly hair mask in between but for an everyday conditioner, this is great. It strengthens each hair fiber from within, helping repair and preserve hair’s natural vitality.

I always need to use some sort of spray to detangle my birds nest hair after it is washed.  I use this pump spray, around 10-15 sprays which detangles it easily. As its paraben free, it cares and protects hair from day to day stress and gives a gentle hold.

These products are a great introduction into the free from beauty products as its luxurious, smells great, leaves hair looking and feeling softer and more vibrant and it still foams. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to shake off the foam just yet. It does foam and its sulfate free. That’s a win for me.
