FEKKAI – New vegan and sustainable haircare brand launches in the UK

As the world is changing and we are all currently on lockdown, I know a lot of people, including myself have started to question what’s important in life.  After realising how much of an affect nature has on our lives and to our survival, I think being more sustainable is critical.  So, how can we be more sustainable? One easy way is to be more mindful about what we purchase – our skincare and fashion choices can help and there are a lot of ethical brands out there.

This brings me on to a new hair care range by FEKKAI created by stylist to the stars, Frederic Fekkai, which is so luxurious and sustainable. The products are all vegan, cruelty free and also free from sulphates, parabens, phthalates and made from 95% recycled plastic. Frederic Fekkai is really passionate about sustainability so he wanted to create an environmentally conscious brand that has a positive impact on the planet.

The ingredients are all plant derived and made with Mirabelle Plum seed oil, a highly-purified, lightweight, non-greasy oil extracted from the French Mirabelle plum, that helps protect hair with an abundance of antioxidants, fatty acids, and powerful polyphenols. Each FEKKAI bottle is made up from 95% repurposed plastic which is 100% recyclable. The company gives back too, in the companies first year; it will repurpose 64 million grams of plastic, which is roughly 7 million plastic bottles.

If you know me personally or follow me on instagram, you will know I love hair care since my hair is very blonde and not natural. I have been using the new Technician Colour Shampoo and Conditioner and they really left my hair feeling soft, healthy and super shiny. The range is created and perfected for colour-treated hair so that it keeps its vibrancy, especially for hair that needs repair, like mine. It’s safe for keratin-treated strands too, has a built in heat protector, anti pollution protector and solar protection.

I use a lot of products to keep my hair healthy and I especially love a shampoo and conditioner that’s organic and free of toxins because you can really notice the difference. Often, I find that clean hair care and particularly vegan hair products can be really heavy and weigh the hair down, but these are amazing – they wash out perfectly and really nourish the hair. My only criticism is that I can smell the natural ingredients when I blowdry my hair. It does have that vegan smell but it goes away once dry and doesn’t linger. This hasn’t stopped me from loving it as I use them every day.

Below are some key facts about the ingredients:

Solar protection – this is great for summer! Each product contains a speciality rice protein that protects hair fibres from the oxidative damage generated by solar radiation.

Anti Pollution protection – ingredients include an Edelweiss Flower Extract, that has high performance antioxident and free radical scavenging “active” to protects against environemntal pollutants.

Heat protection – An internal heat protection in wax product, using penthanol (Pro-Vitamin B5).

The product range consists of 14 products and 5 ranges – Technician Colour, Brilliant Gloss, Full Blown Volume, Super strength and baby Blonde.
