OLAPLEX… aka Liquid Gold

If you have never heard ofOLAPLEXyou need to get this liquid gold/magic potion in your life asap! It’s been around for a while now and I have heard so many amazing things about how it transforms coloured hair.  I have never opted for it in the salon because I have survived without it so far, but these days, any good hair colourist will use it in their hair dye mix to protect your hair from damage while it is being dyed.  It costs from around £20 so it’s definitely worth it.

My hair is really blonde and in okay condition as I treat it with masks every week and also use several oils as I dry it, while wet and then dry so I do look after it. OLAPLEX on the other hand is some sort of next level treatment. I cant believe I have only started using it after 10 years of being a blonde, especially since my hair is naturally dark brown and nearly black! OLAPLEX contains a patented active ingredient that works on a molecular level to seek out broken bonds in the hair that are caused by chemical, thermal, and mechanical damage so even those of you who don’t colour your hair can use it. See below, it’s disgusting right?

I have been trying out the No.3 at home bond builder that contains the same active ingredient found in all of the professional OLAPLEX products. The patented technology relinks the broken disulfide bonds in every type of hair providing real, structural repair that works from within. It dynamically repairs damage to all hair types, and it can also be applied once a week between chemical services to further lock-in the results of any salon treatment.

Its super easy to use, all you do is apply a generous amount to wet, towel dried hair. Comb it through and then leave for 10 minutes or longer if you wish to get a more intense treatment and 30-90 mins is ideal. To finish, wash out and then shampoo and condition as normal.

The results are amazing. I was quite surprised at first, because when I combed through my hair it didn’t feel really creamy and soft like it normally does after a hair mask. Once I dried it I realised that my hair in fact was repaired from the inside, and looked and felt stronger. It’s not a conditioner, so it won’t give you that soft feeling which let’s be honest, only every lasts one wash as the conditioner only sits on the surface of the hair. OLAPLEX on the other hand makes the hair bonds stronger and it’s immediately noticeable. If you want that super shiny and smooth effect, you can use it with a hair mask. Repeat once a week.

I have been using mine for 3 weeks now and absolutely love it! It really does spin straw to silk, it’s probably one of my favourite and most needed beauty product. My hair is stronger, healthier, softer and looks super shiny.

Beyonce’s Hair Colourist Rita Hazan launches hair care collection!

I am crazy in love with Rita Hazan, hair colourist to Beyonce, the Kardashians, Katy Perry, JLo and so many more amazing women. Famous for her risk taking and the iconic looks she has created from Katy Perry’s pastels to Beyonce’s colour, it is clear, Rita is a genius.

I had the chance to meet Rita earlier this year at the launch of her new products and had a really long chat about my colour damaged hair and of course makeup. She’s a very cool New Yorker with great hair – a total boss and so inspiring. Her products definitely reflect her whole aesthetic as her own hair is coloured and she has a really deep understanding of what women need.

Here’s us twinning:

I know what you’re thinking, another celeb artists launching a brand, but seriosuly this one totally lives up to expectation.

My hair is bleached AF! Recently I had it cut and coloured and thought it was looking and feeling great, until I used the True Colour Revolution Shampoo and Conditioner. After using these products, my hair felt like real hair again. I couldn’t believe it. It felt heavy, thick, shiny, soft, smooth and alive! Anyone with bleached hair will know what I mean. Coloured hair feels like hollow straw. After using these products it felt incredible. I actually noticed immediately after shampooing because even my wet hair felt saturated and smooth.

The True Color Revolution Shampoo (£21) is specially designed for color treated hair as the rich-lathering shampoo gently yet effectively protects hues. Infused with botanical surfactants, it cleans and removes build up without stripping color. The Rice proteins and Moringa Seed Extract leave hair squeaky clean and nourished. There is no build-up, so hair feels weightless and silky.

The True Color Revolution conditioner (£21) is Infused with Japanese Camelia Oil to leave strands feeling silky and manageable. Rita’s fade-defying complex protects color from UV, environment and heat tools, preventing breakage while providing lustrous sheen.

Also what’s amazing is that these products are Sulphate, Sodium Chloride & Paraben Free. The packaging on these products is amazing and it smells expensive. You only need a tiny amount so a little goes a long way.

The other products are from the collection are, root concealer touch up stick and spray, a Triple Treat Split End Therapy. Check them out…. and let’s face it, it’s the closest we’re ever going to get to Queen Bey’s glam team. Enjoy x

Anti-Age your hair with Salon Science CELLULUXE™ Shampoo and Conditioner

My regular shampoo and conditioner of choice is normally a coloured or damaged variety so when someone recommended I use an anti-age range I was really offended! Okay, so I am in my mid 30s and my hair is long and super bleached, but really? Does my hair look old now??!

Turns out, just like our skin, our hair ages over time – it thins out, dulls, becomes more brittle and takes longer to repair than younger hair. The way to avoid this is by using a preventative products. The new Salon Science® Swiss Apple collection does just that. It uses the stem cell extracts of a rare Swiss Apple for thicker, stronger, healtheir and younger looking hair.

I have been using the shampoo and conditioner from this collection and I love it! I have used Salon Science before and liked it but wasnt crazy about it, but this anti-age shampoo and Conditioner really feels like its made a difference to my hair.  The packaging is nice, minumal and sceincy and it smells great. The ingredients are taken from the stem cells of a rare Swiss Apple called phytonutrients, famous for its inability to shrivel and its self-healing properties. These enter the hair follicle through the scalp to bulge the hair restoring its volume. The formulations work as a wakeup call for follicles by targeting and rejuvenating the hair bulge stem cells, enabling them to keep working efficiently. This creates a delay in the hair ageing process, resulting in stronger, healthier and younger looking hair.

Both the shampoo and conditioner are gentle and luxirous to use.  In case you were worried, they are not medical at all.  They feel creamy, luxurious and expensive. I noticed how soft, shiny and volumous my hair was after the first use. The conditioner softened my hair and never weighed it down.  It also kept my colour fresh.

‘Free of’ Hair Care – Wella ELEMENTS Shampoo & Conditioner

I’ve been using a new paraben, sulphate, and artificial colourant free shampoo and conditioner which has left my hair and conscience  feeling amazing! The new Wella Professionals ELEMENTS has won numerous awards worldwide for this range of hair care and its pretty obvious why, it’s incredible! Specially designed for ingredient conscious clients, this hair care range is ‘free from’ all those damaging chemicals which strip the hair and scalp of its natural goodness.

As we are all caring so much about what we put into our bodies these days, the ‘eat clean’ ethos has started to resonate into skincare and hair care where consumers are starting to question all the chemicals inside beauty products. I have been trying to champion ethical and natural products for a while now so it’s great to finally find a shampoo and conditioner which not only works, it feels luxurious too. A lot of natural and sulphate free products which have the ‘no foam’ feeling is actually quite strange.

What are Sulfates?

For those of you who aren’t aware of sulfate, it is a synthetic ingredient that is found in most cleaning products which give them that lathery foam. It was introduced into cleaning products in the 1930s to make us believe that foam equals washing, which I guess has conditioned us today. The truth is, Sulfate is an aggressive chemical which is damaging and it strips the hair and skin of keratin causing dullness, frizz, split ends, scalp damage, and makes it more vulnerable to heat and the environment.

What are Parabens?

Parabens are the most widely used preservatives in cosmetics and personal care products such as soap, moisturizers, shaving cream and underarm deodorant. Companies use parabens to extend the shelf life of products that is required to have a shelf life, e.g. how long a particular product remains acceptable to use under normal conditions. They are controversial due to the suspicion of it’s ability to mimic Oestrogen which is linked to breast cancer due to it’s ability to stimulate breast cell division and secondly it’s ability to interact with other hormones that are believed to promote cell division.

Sulphate and Paraben Free

With the rise of clean beauty, scientists are discovering natural ways of giving products the clean feel at renewing their shelf life whilst restoring keratin. The discover Elements Renewing Shampoo, Lightweight Renewing Conditioner and Conditioning Leave Spray is inspired by the unique combination of nature and science. The Wella Professionals scientists developed the NuTREE complex enriched with natural tree extract to help protect hair against keratin degeneration and targets the scalp and hair inside and out to ensure that both act and stay like renewed. It has up to 10 times more keratin than your average shampoo and instantly repairs and prevents against keratin degeneration.

The Shampoo is my favourite. It smells so good and foams up but doesn’t leave your hair feeling squeaky clean after which is caused by the stripping sulfates. This shampoo does the exact opposite by adding moisture to the hair, preserving it, and nourishing it from root to tip. It also renews dry brittle hair, and protects against breakage.

As my hair is coloured, it’s always damaged and brittle so to find a shampoo that locks in moisture and adds radiance is amazing.

This Lightweight paraben free conditioner is for every day use. For those who have coloured and damaged hair would probably need to use  a weekly hair mask in between but for an everyday conditioner, this is great. It strengthens each hair fiber from within, helping repair and preserve hair’s natural vitality.

I always need to use some sort of spray to detangle my birds nest hair after it is washed.  I use this pump spray, around 10-15 sprays which detangles it easily. As its paraben free, it cares and protects hair from day to day stress and gives a gentle hold.

These products are a great introduction into the free from beauty products as its luxurious, smells great, leaves hair looking and feeling softer and more vibrant and it still foams. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to shake off the foam just yet. It does foam and its sulfate free. That’s a win for me.

Hair Hack – Raise your hair game with the Aquis Towel

I will let you into a little secret that has recently changed my life, and my hair.

It’s so amazing how such a basic product like a little lightweight hair towel can be such a game changer in your beauty regime. You might have seen these on social media as bloggers and beauty editors have gone crazy over them. Developed in South Korea, the Aquitex hair towel is made from a super absorbent AQUITEX®  fabric which gently wraps around your hair avoiding the friction that your regular towel makes. When the hair is wet, it’s delicate, stretchy and more prone to being damaged when weighed down and twisted with a towel. The Aquitex towel minimises this strain on the hair because its really light and wicks water away from the hair enabling it to dry faster naturally, leaving it frizz free and less damaged. Not only that, it cuts drying time so there’s less time your hair spends with a hairdryer minimising heat damage and cuts your carbon footprint.

What’s not to love about this amazing towel?!

I have been using my Aquitex for about 3 weeks now and and I have noticed such a huge difference to the condition of my hair. I only leave my towel on for around 5 minutes but the longer you leave it the better, and if you leave it for 15-20 minutes, your hair is nearly completely dry. Amazing right? For me, 5 minutes for my super long hair has cut my drying time in half. It feels softer, lighter, and less frizzy. Its also so easy to use as it really does wrap around your hair and tucks into the back so you can easily walk around, make a cup of tea or do your makeup.

The only negative feedback I have on this towel is that combing my hair is a little more difficult than usual because it’s a lot dryer than usual so the knots are harder to remove. My hair is coloured so when I wash it, its so tangled its an absolute  nightmare to smooth out. I have to apply more of my untangling products before tackling with my tangle Teezer. However, this won’t stop me from using it as my hair colourist told me my hair was in excellent condition. I definitely know its due to my Aquis towel.

I highly recommend everyone gets one of these amazing towels. Just like the Tangle Teezer and beauty blender, this product will really change your beauty life. A hair turban, headband are also available, and also an extra long towel for all you mermaids out there. It comes in a little resealable compact and cute bag to you take it away on trips and to the gym too.

Thank me later…

Made in Chelsea – when an East London girl gets the famous Chelsea Blow Dry…

I  have always lived in East London and I guess my style reflects that. However, when it comes to beauty, my allegiances sway West. I’ll take glowing skin, polished nails, and shiny hair any day over grungy, no makeup, and a day old eyeliner. My hair however, swings both ways – I call it undone done, so its soft, shiny, but slightly messy and disheveled.

When I was invited to the Richard Ward Salon on Kings Road for the Chelsea Blow dry by the man himself, I was super excited. Award winner, and stylist to the stars including the HRH Dutchess of Cambridge. Who would say no to an offer like that? I jumped on the Central, and then District Line, and there I was, in the Royal Borough for my Blow Dry. Walk up from Sloane Square and you see these bouncy, shiny blow drys everywhere, they look amazing.

Here’s my blow dry

It was created by using the Richard Ward Argan Anti Age Shampoo and Conditioner. Then dried off by using the Argan Elixir and 10-1 spray and put into rollers. The rollers were taken out, sprayed and then blow dried again.

My colour was looking vibrant and my hair looked, healthy, shiny and incredibly bouncy – I loved it!

Here’s the products that are exclusively sold in Waitrose. I took some home and have been using them ever since. They are extremely moisturising and smell amazing. For this price point, the quality is great!

Colour WOW Brass Banned Mousse

Being an unnatural blonde, my hair needs a lot of attention. I condition it every day and use treatment masques once a week to keep in healthy. To maintain my blonde colour, I have to use a silver shampoo to take out any brassiness which is the inevitable  yellow colour which develops on bleached hair.

I use a great silver shampoo from Bleach London which I have been using for years and it’s amazing at keeping my colour in check. The only downside to it is that I have to leave it on for at least 15 minutes each time. Of course impatient and busy me does not have time, and I find standing in the shower with blue shampoo dripping off my hair really boring and uncomfortable.

The new Brass Banned Colour Mousse from Colour WOW has totally stepped up and changed my silver rinse game. This lavender coloured, colour-correcting mousse is a non-alcohol, non-drying formula containing specially blended polymers which counteracts harsh brassy blonde tones instantly. I cannot believe how easy and effective it is.

All you do is apply the mousse to washed wet hair before blow drying, like a normal mousse, but add it to the ends, or where you need the colour correction. Blow dry, and your done – your colour will look shiny and new.

I don’t think I have ever used a product that has made such a huge difference to my hair. The next day, everyone thought I had dyed my hair blonde, its amazing.

Also, brunette babes, Brass Banned Mousse is also available for dark hair as a light teal color, which counteracts brassy tones, returning brown hair to its original richness and depth
